About us
VfB Sandia’s first game was played on September 08th, 2002 with a win in a 3.Division Women’s Soccer game. This first game was a start of a “perfect” season for the Mighty Wombats and the VfB Sandia Soccer Club. The women’s team participated in all statewide tournaments and the Friendship tournament in Las Vegas. In it’s first official season, the Mighty Wombats won the Fall Classic 2002, State Cup 2003 and lead the 3.Division with a perfect record. The VfB Sandia Soccer Club continued to grow.....in the summer of 2003 the Banana Slugs Co-ed summer team was added and in the 2004/2005 the Eclipse a then 2.Division Men’s joint the club. 2006 was an important year for the club. The Men and Women teams packed their bags and traveled to Germany for the World Cup 2006. For 10 days Sulz/ Neckar in the Black Forrest was home to 50 players and their families. International friendships were formed and soccer was enjoyed with friends. “Die Welt zu Gast bei Freunden” (“the world welcomed by friends”) was certainly the motto the of VfB Sandia’s World Cup experience. The highlight of this experience was definitely the three games against the VfR Sulz and SV Hopfau, followed by a reception lead by the mayor of Sulz/Neckar with traditional German food and of course BEER. Back in the US, the VfB Sandia recovered from the trip and got ready for the new season. In 2009, the club underwent a significant grow, we added 3 new teams to the club, a Over-30 Women’s team, a 1.Division Women’s team and a 3.Division Women’s team.
